History
Established as a river-crossing stopover for drovers, the town was gazetted in 1859. It remained a pastoral township although it benefited from copper and gold mining in the late 1800s. Wheat, sheep and cattle farming still predominate.Mount Tilga (8 km to the north) is said to be the geographical centre of NSW.
Things to do
- Swim, sail and waterski on Gum Bend Lake, a river diversion created specifically for water sports.
- Step back in time at the cemetery, which includes a section for Chinese gold miners.
- Climb Mount Tilga for spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.
Events
- Condo 750 cross-country rally, held over the Easter long weekend, sees cars, bikes, buggies and Outback challenge vehicles start their engines in a bid to claim the winner's flag.
- Condobolin Agricultural Show, in August, features rural displays, exhibitions and competitions.
